Raijintek draw a lot of attention with their compact-sized attractive looking Metis case and also proved that aluminum cases do not have to be very expensive. It seems company enjoyed the positive reviews and sales figures so the bigger brother Micro ATX mainboard compatible Styx and also ATX version Thetis followed. And now here we are with the E-ATX version of the series; Asterion! Contrary to the previous members of the series PSU is mounted at the bottom in a more traditional way. Also you need to open left panel, rather than right panel in order to reach internal components. 3 mm thick tempered glass panels are a showstopper. There are two color options: black and silver as seen below…
Opening the box, a multi language user guide, installation screws, cable ties, anti-vibration grommets for HDDs and other connectors welcome us.
We had a chance to review silver edition. Top and front panels look very similar to the previous models in this series. There is also Asterion Plus edition and the main advantage is an external 5.25″ drive slot but side panels are acrylic instead of tempered glass.
Each tempered glass panel are mounted with the help of four thumb screws. Aluminum panels are chosen for the front, top and bottom parts. Anodized brushed matte look is very elegant. Tempered glass panels are mirror-lite but tinted.
Four rubber feet and air inlets are located at the bottom. Since those are inlets, removable dust filters are a must. Those come with screws but not hard to clean. As far as we understand, it is not possible to mount a fan or a HDD.
Internal parts and back panel is based on 1mm SPCC. Inside of the case is totally black even for the silver version which is totally fine for us. E-ATX mainboards are bigger than usual ones so it is nice to see 8 expansion slots instead of 7. Here you can see 4 slots for water cooling pipes as well. PSU mounting frame comes with easy-to-use thumb screws.
Top located I/O panel contains 4 x super speed USB 3.0 ports, headphone output and mic input. There is only Power button and Power LED is hidden inside. Reset button is missing these days.
Top located dust filter can only be removed after unlocking from the bottom side. You can mount a 240/280/360mm radiator or triple 120mm / dual 140mm fans here. It is very easy to reach and no problems during installation.
At the other side of the case, behind the right panel, there is enough room for cable management. E-ATX, ATX or smaller mainboard supporting metal plate has lots of cable holes and up to 180mm tall CPU coolers can be installed/uninstalled easily. On the other hand, max. length for the VGA is 340mm. Sharp eyes can detect dual 2.5″ HDD/SSD mounting holes.
There is a special chamber at the bottom and it is not only for PSU and its cables. It also hides dual tool-free 2.5/3.5″ HDD cages. PSU area comes with anti-vibration rubber feet. A nice detail here.
Pre-installed dual 120mm front fans are supported with white LEDs. You may add an another 120mm fan or switch to dual 140mm fans. One of the biggest advantage is possibility of removing this fan carrying metal panel. Just unscrew 4 thumb screws.
And then you will be able to modify this area easily. The point is letting you install a 240/280/360mm radiator without any trouble. Decision is yours; front or top located liquid cooling system is not a problem.
Top located PSU/HDD chamber is isolated very well thanks to the metal cover. What’s more, you can mount dual 3.5 or one each 2.5/3.5″ drives here as well. Anti-vibration rubber grommets make tool-free installation possible.
Last but least, when we look at the rear from inside, we can see the other pre-installed 120mm white LED fan. Similar to the front area, you may choose to mount a 140mm fan when needed.
When ATX mainboard based Thetis and E-ATX supporting Asterion Classic side-by-side, the size difference is epic. Since dimensions are 230 x 464 x 525mm, not surprising to learn it weights 10.4kg. MSRP is 150 Euro and this is not much when we consider all features and performance figures! We would like to thank Raijintek for the review sample.
